Dental Whiteners

Dental whiteners or bleaches can help your teeth look cleaner and healthier. The products usually contain a peroxide-based bleaching agent that helps remove stains from the teeth.

When a person eats or drinks, the items that are ingested can deposit colorants or pigments into the pores of the teeth. With time, these deposited hues may build up, causing the teeth to become increasingly discolored. 

Dental whiteners help restore the whiteness of the teeth by bleaching away the accumulated pigments. After a whitening treatment is complete, the teeth may appear several shades whiter.

There are various treatments available. The teeth may be whitened using a whitening kit or an in-office whitening application. Kits are designed for at-home use and may be purchased over-the-counter or through your dentist's office. In-office applications are only applied by dental professionals. 

If you are unsure of whether or not you can apply the whitening products of a kit properly, it is best to select an in-office application. The misuse of a whitening product can result in increased dental sensitivity and enamel damage. Since an in-office product is professionally applied, the application is not only effective, but it is also quite safe.

The Invisalign System

Invisalign is a relatively new dental treatment that is designed to straighten the teeth. The system includes multiple sets of mouth trays called aligners. The aligners fit over the teeth and are made of clear, rigid plastic.

The aligners are designed from a mold or impression of the mouth. Based on the original configuration of the teeth, the aligners progressively move the teeth into the desired alignment, correcting the crookedness.

Each set of aligners in the Invisalign system is worn for a week or so. They are then replaced with the next set of aligners in the prescribed treatment plan.

The Invisalign system is often preferred above other types of alignment treatments, such as conventional braces, because the aligners are clear and removable. The transparency of the aligners makes them discreet, and their removability makes it simple to eat and clean the teeth throughout the duration of the treatment.
